Bates requires that all applicants attending homeschool submit an academic portfolio which includes the following:

1. A complete list of the courses taken, including title and instructor

2. A description of each course including required reading and texts

3. Evidence of laboratory experience in science courses

Homeschooled applicants are required to submit at least two letters of recommendation. One letter of recommendation must be written by the applicant’s parent/guardian, primary instructor, or head of their home school network. One additional letter of recommendation must be written and submitted by non-relatives who can speak to the applicant’s academic and personal strengths. Sample recommenders include coaches, employers, mentors, or course instructors.
