Applicant guide

Norwich University publishes a dedicated homeschool-applicant page and welcomes homeschooled students, noting their emphasis on safety, service, and experiential learning aligns with homeschool values.

Diploma / academic record: Norwich does not require a traditional high school diploma or GED to apply. Applicants will be required to submit an official academic record prior to starting classes.

Transcript / curriculum documentation: In place of a conventional transcript, applicants should provide the curriculum they have undertaken during the last four years — all subjects covered, as well as the books and learning resources used — documented by the person most responsible for the applicant's overall learning. Official transcripts from any college, high school, or other education programs should also be submitted; Norwich particularly values homeschooled applicants who have taken classes outside the homeschool setting, such as through a local college or online school.

Essays and letters of recommendation are completely optional. If submitted, Norwich is interested in why the family chose homeschooling and the resources used to craft the curriculum; for letters, Norwich suggests one parent letter of recommendation and one from someone who has known the applicant in an extracurricular or service-oriented capacity. Homeschooled applicants may use either the Norwich Application or the Common Application; no homeschool supplement is required.
