Homeschooled students are welcome to apply to RISD!
A student's program of study will need to be approved by the state or country's department of education. If it isn't, we will need their results of the GED by the end of their senior year.
We find it helpful to have detailed information about their secondary school coursework. This can take the form of a transcript from an online program; a document that the parent or provider writes together (or they write with their teachers) detailing their program of study; or transcripts from any classes they've taken at a community college.
Please upload all transcripts to the Common Application or email them to admissions@risd.edu. Other educational providers (like a community college or online school) can also send transcripts to our office.
If parents plan to write a letter of recommendation for their child, we strongly recommend that they also submit another letter of recommendation. This can come from any teacher, professional, or any mentor who can comment on the students potential as a RISD student.
