Homeschooled students follow the same admission requirements as applicants from public or private high schools. To apply as a first-year student, applicants must submit the following:
- The Common Application
- Two letters of recommendation (preferably one from a teacher and one from a counselor/advisor)
- An official high school transcript
- A personal essay
If a teacher or counselor recommendation is not available, Simmons will accept letters from coaches, mentors, community leaders, supervisors, or others who can speak to the applicant’s academic and personal strengths. In cases where none of these options are possible, a family member recommendation may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Transcripts may be submitted in the format developed by the homeschool program or family. Simmons reviews both traditional and narrative transcripts. Transcripts must include courses and grades for grades 9–12. If grade 12 coursework is in progress, the transcript should list the courses being completed. Applicants who have taken courses at a college or university must request that an official transcript be sent directly from the institution.
