Southwest Baptist University (SBU) welcomes homeschool applicants and provides a straightforward admissions process. About 7-10% of SBU students are homeschooled, and the university is highly supportive of homeschool applicants, treating them equally to traditional students in the admissions process. Dedicated homeschool counselors are available to guide families through the process and ensure their transcripts and documents meet requirements.
To begin, students should complete the free online application for admission. Official homeschool transcripts and standardized test scores (ACT, SAT, or CLT) should be submitted through the applicant's online account. SBU requires a cumulative homeschool GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. Although the university is test-optional for admission, submitting test scores may enhance eligibility for academic scholarships. Applicants are encouraged to contact their admissions counselor with any questions about requirements or the application process.
To prepare for academic success at SBU, it is recommended that homeschool students complete at least 13 high school units in the following areas: 4 units of English, 3 units of mathematics, 2 units of social studies, 2 units of natural science, and 2 elective units. Electives may include foreign language, computer science, or additional coursework in English, math, social studies, or science.
Homeschool applicants must submit a transcript covering grades 9 through 12. This transcript can be issued by a homeschool organization or a parent and should include the student's full name and date of birth, course titles, grades earned, credit per semester, the grading scale used, cumulative GPA, and expected graduation date. SBU also offers a downloadable homeschool transcript template to assist families in preparing this document.
