Applicant guide

UMF is committed to the homeschool experience and evaluates homeschool applicants with an understanding that their educational journeys are often nontraditional.

Expand all

Admissions start by reviewing the student’s homeschool transcript to understand coursework and context. If the curriculum details are unclear or missing applicants may be asked to submit scores from the HiSET (or in some cases, GED) for additional context.

Since homeschool GPAs aren’t evaluated on the same scale as public school GPAs, UMF appreciates when students include:

  • Clear course descriptions
  • Information on grading methods
  • Context about how coursework was completed (e.g., independently, online, nature-based, etc.)
  • Evidence of academic rigor and competency

At least one if required. While UMG prefers a non-family recommender, we understand this may not always be possible. A letter from someone in a professional or mentorships capacity (coach, employer, community leader) is encouraged to provide insight into a student’s character and work ethic.
