The University of Michigan-Dearborn is a homeschooler-friendly university. We welcome students who have received personal educational attention while studying at home, and we invite them to apply and enroll at UM-Dearborn. Our small classroom environment ensures that students receive personal attention. Over the years, UM-Dearborn has enrolled many homeschooled students who have been successful at completing their University of Michigan degree.​

Homeschooled students are considered for admission using the same criteria as other incoming freshmen:

  • Apply for admission
  • High School Transcript (sample template) or a GED total score of 660 (each area 165)\*
  • SAT or ACT Score Test Optional
  • No letters of recommendation or essays are required
  • Non-Native Speakers may have additional requirements
  • Please note: All applicants must graduate from an approved and/or accredited secondary school or home school, or present a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Students who take college coursework while in high school (i.e. dual enrollment) are considered first-year students. *Prior GED score to 2014, a required score of 55 or 550.

Homeschooled students are encouraged to complete a similar sequence of courses as the State of Michigan's Merit Curriculum. This ensures that homeschooled students are appropriately prepared for the coursework and faculty expectations at UM-Dearborn.
