The requirements for students who have been home-schooled are the same as those for students who have followed a traditional schooling profile.

There are several ways the home-schooled student can present the required material:

  • Students who have had an established working relationship with a home-schooling agency that supplies curriculum outlines and that reviews and grades work completed can submit a transcript from that agency.
  • Students may also submit their home-schooling plans to the appropriate agencies in their states in order to receive approval to grant a high school diploma.
  • Many homeschooled students supplement their home learning with college courses and courses with certified private tutors/teachers.
  • URI will remain test-optional for the 2024-2025 admission cycle. If you plan to submit your SAT or ACT scores to URI, please answer “yes” to that question on our Common Application, and we will wait to review your application until we receive your scores.
  • Other options for demonstrating course competency include submission of college courses covering the subject areas listed in the first-year requirements section of the website, results of Advanced Placement exams in those same subjects, or CLEP exam results.
  • Homeschooled applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family member.
